This branch of dentistry is a combination of Oral Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. The department acts as a bridge between dentistry and medicine. In some cases, clinical features of diseases or disorders related to oral cavity can be suggestive of any systemic disease or condition and vice versa. It is here when the role of Oral Medicine specialist, as a part of multidisciplinary team comes into play. The branch specializes in

  • The diagnosis and management of diseases related to oral and maxillofacial region
  • Radiographic evaluation of diseases, disorders and conditions of oral and maxillofacial region
  • Offering 3D images and assisting other specialities of dentistry in planning dental treatment like implants, periodontics, orthodontics, endodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Key Features

  • To train the undergraduates, to acquire the necessary skills to diagnose and manage patients
  • Examination of routine opd and conservative management of special cases related to maxillofacial region
  • The department also houses a tobacco cessation centre where patients with habit of tobacco chewing are made aware of the harmful effects of tobacco and are professionally counseled to quit the habit. As per the requirement, the patients are referred further for rehabilitation
